RBI Compliance - How to Authenticate Recurring Time Doctor Subscription Charges
Note: This process applies to all Time Doctor subscription plans and requires action from account owners responsible for billing.
TL;DR:
Due to RBI’s 2021 directive on recurring transactions, banks in India require payment authentication for subscription renewals. An email invoice may be sent to authenticate the payment method. Failure to authenticate may result in loss of account access or subscription cancellation.
Understanding RBI Compliance for Recurring Payments
In April 2021, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) mandated stricter rules for processing e-mandates on recurring transactions.
As a result:
-
Issuing banks in India may block transactions that do not comply with these rules.
-
Our payment processor updated its API to meet these compliance requirements.
-
During billing cycles, invoices may require Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) before payment is processed. (Read more about RBI’s directive here).
What Happens During Subscription Renewal
-
An invoice may arrive via email requesting payment authentication.
-
The authentication step must be completed to confirm the payment method.
-
Once authenticated, the subscription payment will clear, and account access will remain active.
Important: Time Doctor accounts continue to operate while awaiting authentication.
- Failure to authenticate may lead to:
-
Suspended access to the account.
-
Cancellation of the subscription.
