How to Install/Uninstall the Automatic App on macOS Using Terminal
Note: Adding Automatic App Users is available with all Time Doctor Subscription Plans. This can be accessed and configured by both Owners & Admins.
TL;DR
- Enable the approval setting in Settings / Company Settings.
- Find user status under Settings / Users > New Automatic Users.
- Download the latest script from the Download page.
- Use Terminal to install or uninstall the Automatic App.
- Confirm macOS permissions and verify user status via the Timeline Report.
Pre-Requisite
- Enable Review and approve new automatic application users in Settings / Company Settings under the Configuration section. This is disabled by default.
- Confirm that the New Automatic Users tab appears in Settings / Users.
- Understand the categories within New Automatic Users:
- Pending approval – Lists all new automatic user attempts. Billing does not start.
- Approved users – Users approved but not yet tracking time. Billing starts only after tracking begins. Once tracking starts, users move to Settings / Users under Active Users.
- Blocked users – User profiles that should not be tracked.
- Pending approval – Lists all new automatic user attempts. Billing does not start.
Caution: Restart the device for the user to be detected by the system and moved to the Active Users tab in Settings / Users page.
To Install the Time Doctor Automatic App
- Download or copy the installation script. Obtain the latest version from the Download page or request it from the account Owner/Admin.
- Open Terminal using one of the following methods:
- Option 1: Open from Launchpad.
- Option 2: Press Command + Spacebar, then type "Terminal" in Spotlight Search.
- Paste the download link into Terminal and press Enter. When prompted, enter the computer's password.
- Ensure the Automatic App is listed in macOS accessibility and screen sharing settings. The app may appear as "env" (or "sfproc.sh" on macOS versions earlier than Catalina).
- Check the Online Report to verify if the user appears online.
How to Uninstall the Automatic App on macOS
- Go to the Download page and locate the FAQ section.
- Copy the Uninstall command for macOS.
- Open Terminal, paste the command, and press Enter.
- When prompted, enter the computer's password.
