macOS 27 Permission Prompts and Missing Activity Data With MDM

Apple's macOS 27 no longer lets MDM silently grant Accessibility access, so users may see permission prompts and missing activity data.

This article is for company owners and admins of companies that deploy Time Doctor’s automatic app on Macs through MDM.

If you deploy Time Doctor this way, hold off on macOS 27 updates for now. This article explains why, what Users might see, and what to do.

What Changed in macOS 27

Starting with macOS 27, Apple no longer lets an MDM silently grant Accessibility access to apps. This is an Apple change and isn't specific to Time Doctor. It affects deployments that rely on MDM (such as Jamf, Kandji, Mosyle, or Intune) to pre-approve Time Doctor's permissions.

What Users Might See

On Macs running macOS 27, Users might see:

  • Permission prompts from Time Doctor, such as a request to access data from other apps.
  • Time Doctor permission settings that they can switch off, because your MDM can no longer lock them.
  • Activity data that isn't recorded, such as keyboard and mouse activity and app and website usage.

We've confirmed the missing activity data on one test Mac and are still checking how widely it applies. In our testing, updates within macOS 26 weren't affected.

What to Do

Hold macOS 27 updates on Macs where Time Doctor is deployed through MDM. Use your MDM's software update controls to defer the upgrade. The steps vary by vendor, so check your MDM's documentation.

If Your Macs Are Already on macOS 27

Contact Support before you change profiles or reinstall the app. We'll review your setup with you. We don't have a confirmed fix to recommend yet, and some prompts may not be avoidable because of Apple's change.

What We're Doing

We're investigating what we can change in Time Doctor. We can't change Apple's rules, so we can't promise that every prompt will go away, and we don't have a date to share. We'll update this article as we learn more.

Prompts on Earlier macOS Versions

Users might also see some Time Doctor permission prompts, such as Desktop folder access, on earlier macOS versions. These aren't related to macOS 27, and we're looking into them separately.
