Understanding Low Activity Calculation and Reporting

Note: Low activity tracking is available in all Time Doctor subscription plans and can be accessed by Users, Admins, and Owners. Access to reports varies by role.

TL;DR:

Low activity is recorded when fewer than 30 combined keyboard strokes and mouse movements occur during a screenshot interval. Mouse clicks are excluded.

Users can view activity details on the Screencasts page. Only Admins and Owners can access idle time summaries in the Activity Summary report.

How Low Activity Is Calculated

Time Doctor determines low activity based on combined keyboard and mouse movements within a screenshot interval.

Low activity is recorded when:

  • The total number of keyboard strokes and mouse movements combined is fewer than 30 during a screenshot interval.

  • Mouse clicks are not included in the calculation.

If activity falls below this threshold during the interval, the screencast is marked as low activity.

How Low Activity Is Reported

Low activity data is available in different ways depending on the access level.

For Users

    • View keyboard and mouse activity directly on the Screencasts page.

    • Review individual screencasts marked as low activity.

    • No access to total idle time summaries by day, week, or month.

For Admins and Owners

    • Access idle time totals through Activity Summary.

    • View summarized idle minutes by day, week, or month.

    • Monitor productivity trends across Users.

Access the report from: Dashboard / Activity Summary

Best Practices for Monitoring Activity

Use low activity insights to:

  • Identify low-engagement periods.

  • Review workflow interruptions.

  • Improve productivity habits.

  • Address potential tracking concerns.

Regular review of activity data ensures accurate productivity monitoring and reporting.

Low activity is calculated using keyboard strokes and mouse movements during screenshot intervals. Mouse clicks are excluded from the calculation.

Review screencasts for detailed activity insights. Use the Activity Summary report for idle time summaries where access is permitted.
