Firefox AddOn is not working on Ubuntu 22.04

TL;DR:

Enable the Firefox Add-on on Ubuntu 22.04+ by installing the required Flatpak permissions and ensuring the Time Doctor desktop app is version 3.9.50 or higher. Confirm that permissions are granted in Firefox and that the add-on is activated in the web app under Settings / Integrations.

Fix Firefox Add-on issues on Ubuntu 22.04 by updating the desktop app, granting permissions, and running a Flatpak command.

Prerequisites

  • Install the Time Doctor desktop app version 3.9.50 or later from the Downloads page.
  • Activate the Firefox Add-on from Settings / Integrations (requires admin access).
  • Ensure the company is using the Interactive app with Projects & Tasks enabled.

Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1: Confirm Add-on Permissions

  • When prompted by Firefox, allow the required permissions for the Time Doctor 2 Add-on.

Step 2: Install Flatpak Support
  • Run the following command in the terminal to enable Flatpak to communicate with Firefox:

sudo apt install flatpak && flatpak permission-set webextensions timedoctor2 snap.firefox yes

This grants the necessary permission for the Time Doctor 2 Add-on to integrate with the Snap version of Firefox shipped with Ubuntu 22.04.

Step 3: Verify Connection
  1. Open the Time Doctor desktop app.
  2. Start tracking a task.
  3. Open Firefox and confirm that the add-on is tracking correctly.

Additional Notes

  • This fix applies only when using the Snap version of Firefox included in Ubuntu 22.04 and later.
  • If Firefox was installed via another method (e.g., Mozilla PPA, Flatpak), confirm whether the Flatpak permission command is still required.
