How to Install/Uninstall the Automatic App on Ubuntu Using Terminal

Note: This is available with all Time Doctor Subscription Plans. This can be accessed by Owners & Admins.

 

TL;DR: 

  • Copy the latest installation script from the Download page.
  • Open Terminal on Linux/Ubuntu and paste the script to install.
  • Check the Timeline report to confirm tracking.
  • To uninstall, copy the uninstallation script, run it in Terminal, and verify the user is offline in the Timeline report.

 

Pre-Requisite

  • Check if Review and approve new automatic application users is enabled in Setting / Company Setting Page and the scroll under Configuration section as this is disabled by default.

  • Confirm that a new tab labelled New Automatic Users shows up in Settings / Users Page

  • Different categories will appear Inside New Automatic Users such as:
    • Pending approval - this is where all new automatic users attempt will appear and no billing will start yet

    • Approved users – these are all approved users who have not started tracking time yet and no billing will start still, once users start tracking time, they will no longer appear here and will move to Settings / Users Page in the Active Users section

    • Blocked users – These are users profiles that should not be tracked

Caution: It is a MUST to restart the device of the user to be detected by the system and be moved to the Active Users Tab in Settings / Users Page.

 

To Install the Time Doctor Automatic App

 

Ubuntu Install

 

Step 1.

Copy the installation script from the Download page or request the latest version from the account owner or admin.

 

Step 2.

Open Terminal:

  • Option 1: Launch from All Applications.
  • Option 2: Press the Windows key and type Terminal into the search section.

Step 3.

Paste the installation script into Terminal to install the app. When prompted, enter the computer password. 

 

Step 4.

Check the Timeline report to confirm the user is online and tracking.


To Uninstall the Time Doctor Automatic App

 

Step 1:
Copy the uninstallation script from the Download page.


Step 2.
Paste the script into Terminal and enter the computer password to complete the uninstallation.

    Step 3.
    Check the Timeline report to confirm the user is offline and tracking has stopped.

    Note: If asked for a password, enter the password of the computer.
