AI Desktop Apps: Connect Claude Desktop to Time Doctor
Note: Time Doctor MCP is available on all Time Doctor subscription plans and can be accessed by Owners, Admins, and Managers.
Tip: Access is read-only and follows the connected account's Time Doctor role. New to Time Doctor MCP? Start with How to Connect AI Tools to Time Doctor (MCP).
TL;DR
Add Time Doctor as a custom connector in Claude, sign in with Time Doctor, and approve access. There are no keys to copy. Setup takes about two minutes. After that, ask Claude about Time Doctor data in plain language.
Before You Start
- Claude open, either the desktop app or claude.ai in a browser
- A Time Doctor login with the Owner, Admin, or Manager role
- Time Doctor MCP enabled by an Owner or Admin in the Company Settings page, under the Configuration section
Set Up the Connection
- In Claude, open Settings, then Customize, then Connectors. If that section is not visible, see Anthropic's guide, Get started with custom connectors using remote MCP.
- Click Add custom connector, name it Time Doctor, and enter the server URL below. Leave the key, token, and header fields empty. https://api2.timedoctor.com/api/2.0/mcp/mcp
- Click Add, then Connect. A browser window opens the Time Doctor sign-in page.
- Sign in if prompted, then click Allow access. Claude returns to the connector screen and lists the Time Doctor tools.
- Optional. In the connector's tool permissions, allow the Time Doctor tools so Claude does not ask for approval every time.
- Start a new chat.
Try the First Question
Paste this into a new chat:
"Help me get started with my Time Doctor data. Ask me about my goals and build my first report."
Troubleshooting
|
Problem |
Fix |
|
There is no option to add a custom connector |
On Claude Team and Enterprise plans, the Claude workspace owner may need to authorize the connector first. See Anthropic's Authorize MCP connectors for your entire organization. |
|
The sign-in page does not open after clicking Connect |
Check whether the browser blocked the pop-up, then click Connect again. If it still does not open, copy the sign-in link Claude displays into a browser. |
|
Cancel was selected on the Time Doctor consent screen |
Nothing was connected. Click Connect in Claude to start again. |
|
Sign-in fails, or a permissions error appears |
Ask a Time Doctor Owner or Admin to confirm that Time Doctor MCP is enabled in the Company Settings page under Configuration, and that the role is Owner, Admin, or Manager. |
|
Time Doctor does not appear in a chat |
Check that Connectors shows Time Doctor as connected, then start a new chat. |
|
Claude answers without using Time Doctor data |
Name it directly, for example: "Using Time Doctor, show hours tracked this week." |
Disconnecting
In Claude, open Connectors and disconnect or remove Time Doctor. Access can also be ended from the Time Doctor side in the AI Connections page. Disconnecting from either side stops that tool from reading Time Doctor data.
