Difference between the New Time Doctor and Time Doctor Classic
Note: Feature availability varies by Time Doctor subscription plan and may require specific user access roles.
TL;DR
Time Doctor Classic is the legacy version, while Time Doctor 2 is the modern, actively developed platform set to replace Classic. Both versions provide time, website, and app tracking, but Time Doctor 2 delivers significant enhancements:
- Enhanced reporting: Productivity rating customization, detailed activity summaries with idle time breakdowns, and internet connectivity tracking.
- Improved data management: Custom export tool to combine multiple report datasets in CSV, XSL, or PDF formats.
- Automation upgrades: Automatic tracking when devices start, trigger-based email notifications, and advanced idle time analysis.
- Security & deployment: Single sign-on (Okta, MS Azure) and expanded mass deployment support (Jamf, Microsoft Intune).
- Media capture: Screenshots plus screen video recording.
- Platform requirements: Time Doctor 2 requires newer OS versions than Classic.
Some capabilities remain exclusive to Classic, including white labeling and pop-up alerts for non-work-related websites. Time Doctor 2 lacks native integrations but supports Chrome extension integrations.
